Man, what a day…
Amidst our hacking frenzy at work preparing for the Ubuntu beta freeze my wife returns from picking up the kids at kindergarten. As they entered the house I quickly realized something was really wrong.
Another dog had attacked our dog while he was bound on a leash outside the kindergarten. Luckily the leash is old and worn out so he was able to escape from it during the attack. Digging into his fur we quickly found a series of gaping wounds.
So letting the rest of the Unity team do their hacking duties I left a very upset family at home while rushing Linuz to the vet (yes; our dog is named after the vmlinuz kernel image).
While he has received a heck of a lot of wounds they don’t appear to be too serious, but the vet says we have to wait a couple days to see how bad the internal trauma is.
At the vet I was pretty convinced that I could easily stomach it while she shaved him around the wounds and cleaned it up – after all I took out five rabbits just the other day… I was proven wrong – had to go out for fresh air two times as I felt the blood drain from my face, quickly followed by dizziness. I guess its something else when it’s “someone you know” 
Quick reflections:
- Yes, it was just outside the kindergarten…
- Yes, it was one of those dogs bread for fighting that attacked. My guess would be that it is a cross bred Boxer and Amstaff (Linuz is a castrate Cairn Terrier (hows that for picking an even fight?!)).
- Linuz – why the heck do you always get yourself into trouble?!
